The public is invited to a free virtual discussion on the women of the 116th Congress with Jennifer Steinhauer on October 29 at 7 p.m. on Zoom.

Steinhauer will discuss her new book “The Firsts: The Inside Story of the Women Reshaping Congress.”

The book details the influx of female lawmakers into Congress following the November 2018 elections.

Steinhauer follows these women’s first year in the 116th Congress, chronicling their transition from campaigns to the daily work of governance.

Steinhauer has been a reporter for The New York Times since 1994. Steinhauer has covered high-profile beats in her 25-year reporting career at the Times, from City Hall bureau chief and Los Angeles bureau chief to Capitol Hill.

The presentation is a function of the Jewish Federation of Reading/Berks in partnership with Exeter Community Library and Sinking Spring Public Library in the second season of Literatour Berks, a community-wide celebration with 29 events featuring authors, celebrities, and cultural influencers in Berks County, organizers said.
