Locally known lawyer resigns amid staged car crash scheme

A locally known New Orleans attorney permanently resigns from practicing law in Louisiana after being indicted in a lawsuit scheme involving staged car crashes with 18-wheelers.

As The Times Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports, Danny Patrick Keating, Jr., of the Keating Law Group, is listed in the indictment as ‘Attorney A’, which alleges he and co-conspirator, Damian Labeaud, elaborately staged 31 car crashes with 18-wheelers in order to sue the trucking companies insurance company.

Keating was indicted in November on a conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud charge.

The indictment focuses on five specific 18-wheeler crashes which Keating filed lawsuits totaling about $1.5 million in settlement money.
